The common red color is due to iron inclusions. Geologists discovered it in 2006 while searching for the currently mined-out Ocean Jasper. The name means multicolored jasper and is a broad term for three new jaspers from 3 separate mines in close proximity to the famous Ocean Jasper mine. These 3 jaspers are Peninsula Jasper, Sunset Jasper, and one yet unnamed Jasper.
